Evening class will be cancelled and posted by 3 pm.

Morning classes will be cancelled by 8 pm the previous night.

Saturday/Sunday afternoon classes will be posted by 10 am that day.

Integrating An Adopted Dog Into Your Life and Home

Adopting a dog from a rescue or a shelter is a very popular way to introduce a new dog into your home. But unlike bringing a puppy into your house, each of these dogs comes with a history and set of experiences, some good and some bad, that may challenge even experienced dog owners. This program is designed to prepare you for the challenges and joys of choosing and adopting your dog, as well as set you on the right course for a lifelong relationship with your 4 pawed friend.

This 2 hour human-only seminar will guide you through the process of choosing your adoptive dog and setting him or her up for success in your home. We will cover topics such as:

    • how to choose a responsible, reliable rescue or shelter
    • how to "interview" your prospective dog to ensure a good match
    • what to do before your bring your new friend home
    • what to expect those first few days and weeks
    • how to settle in the first few days and weeks of your new  relationship
    • training tips for a successful start

Included in the seminar will be handouts about choosing your new friend, a copy of Patricia McConnell's "Love has No Age Limits: Welcoming an Adopted Dog into Your Home" and a coupon for an additional $10 off our "Adoptive Dog Package".

Our adoptive dog package includes:

    • 1 ½ hour in home lesson in the first few days with your new rescue/shelter dog to help you and your dog settle in (available in Somerville, Cambridge, Charlestown, Belmont, Waltham, Arlington, Watertown and some other surrounding towns)
